A valley famous for fish

The tradition of carp breeding in the Barycz Valley has lasted for almost 800 years! Most probably it was the medieval Cistercians who founded the first ponds. In a three-year cycle - fed exclusively with natural fodder - various fish species grow in them, with carp at the forefront. If you want, you can buy them directly from the fish farms, or you can come to the fishery with your fishing rod and wait for such a specimen in perfect silence. You can taste fish dishes in any of the local restaurants or fryeries. The feast will be tasty - the fish are delivered directly from local farms.

King carp

The carp is a symbol of the Barycz Valley. It is worthwhile to follow in his footsteps - to find 30 unique fish figures one by one, and at the same time learn more about the most attractive places in the region. It is worth coming back to the Barycz River in autumn, during the traditional fishing season - from September to November, for 10 consecutive weekends, the Carp Days take place here. This is a real festival of carp variety - alongside open-air events and educational picnics, there are demonstration catches, hiking and cycling trips to the ponds in the company of ornithologists, runs and rallies, horse-drawn carriage and canoe trips, angling competitions, cooking shows and competitions, as well as unique fish dinners organised for the biggest gourmets.

The Kurzbachs, the Hatzfeldts, the Maltzans, the Reichenbachs, the Hochbergs, as well as the Radziwiłłs, the Gołuchowskis and the Leszczyńskis - these are the great families that have shaped the history of this fairytale land. A history which, according to written sources, already began in the era of the Piasts. Its turbulent course reflects the specificity of the Polish-German border region. Its location at the meeting point of two voivodeships - Lower Silesia and Greater Poland - makes the Barycz Valley a true land of diversity, which has been nourished by the wealth of experience of two differently shaped regions for centuries. Lovers of historical monuments will find here impressive wooden buildings that have taken the form of churches and palaces, as well as magnificent palaces remembering the glory days of the old families.
